Dale City Lions Tale
Editor: Clarence Hall
June 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Fellow Lions: Thanks to all who showed and helped for the Special Olympics Field Event at Hylton High School on May 16. The weather held and the athletes gave their all and it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks also to the great effort for this years White Cane Fund Raiser. Lions Tim and Lou did an outstanding job recruiting participants and you Lions responded in a magnificent way.

LOOKING AHEAD: We are fast approaching the end of this Lion year. June 2 and 16 will be the last dinner meetings until we meet again in September. There is some talk of another picnic this summer. Let us know your desires. June 16 is Installation Night and significant others are invited to attend the festivities. Past District Governor Woody has agreed to do the honors of installing the incoming Board of Directors. Don’t forget the June 6 White Elephant Sale with the Leo’s at Garfield. Sales start at 8:00 AM and runs until 2:00 PM. If you do not have enough stuff to rent a spot, donate it to the Lions table, but come out and help.

CHAIRMANS CORNER:

VISITATION: Lion Wyatt is chairing the Visitation program this year and reported at the last dinner meeting that the Club members have met the goal for the Visitation Awards this year. Good job Lion Wyatt and a hearty thank you to all you Lions that made your visitations.

SIGHT & HEARING: Lion Lawrence has had a busy year in the Sight department and has done an outstanding job in arranging for exams and glasses for a large number of folks. He has also started arranging work parties to go to the Park West Lions building the last Wednesday of each month to process glasses. A job well done Lion Lawrence.

MEMBERSHIP: We had a pretty good year in membership. Steve Carter, Antonio Davis, Sid Stephens and Charlie Taylor all joined our ranks. Congratulations to our President King Lion Eric for sponsoring in three of the new members and to Lion Gene for sponsoring one, and a big Roaring Lion welcome to all new members.

LIONS OF VIRGINIA FOUNDATION: Lion Gene chaired the effort to sell LOV tickets this year and thanks to his efforts he raised well over 700 dollars for the Club. Lion Gene, thanks for one heck of a job.

4th OF JULY PARADE: Lion Joe Brown is chair of the Parade Committee and has arranged to have one of the Screening Vans available for the 4th of July. The Van will be set up in the commuter lot during the parade and we will be screening people after the parade. Join us at about 8:30 AM, watch the parade from a pretty good access point and help on the Van. It is usually a fun event. Great job Joe.

SIGHT & HEARING SCREENING VAN:We had the Van at Christ Chapel for the May 30 Health Fair. As I write this news letter we have about eight Lions scheduled to work the Van and should have a good event. We also have the Van scheduled for October 8 for Kerrydale Elementary School. And I understand Rosa Parks School in Princedale is trying to get the Van this fall. We are still working on that.

Have you seen the Dale City Web Page?? Lion Charlie Taylor has a pretty neat Web page set up. Go to dalecitylions.org. Great job Lion Charlie.

REMEMBER: Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. AND always drink upstream from the herd.
